Blog Team FAQ

What does Beyond Thought’s blog team do?

We write bi-weekly 500+ word blog posts for the Beyond Thought website, help with the e-mail newsletter, and also write for other projects as they come up!

Do I need any qualifications or previous writing experience to join the team?

Absolutely not! There will be editors and other writers to help you make the best work possible, so feel no fear.

How much time/work will I need to commit as a blog member?

We meet the first Monday of every month for about an hour, and you’ll need however long it takes you to write a 500+ word article every month or so. The workload and time commitment are kept as short and sweet as possible so as long as you’re writing at least one article every two months and coming to the monthly meeting, that’s great! You’ll also need to keep updated on the Slack chat to let us know when drafts are ready, get meeting reviews, etc.

What topics can I write about?

A better question is what do you want to write about? The Beyond Thought blog team is your place to explore anything to do with art and creativity, being a creative, and simply creating. You can discuss ideas in a piece of literature, interview submitters to the magazine, offer advice on how to overcome burnout, give tips on how to stay connected to art, rave about your latest music, literature, or art obsession, the list goes on and on. While we’ll often try to write articles inspired by monthly holidays or themes (such as Black History Month or Science Fiction Day) or write about matters relating to the journal itself (interviews, submission tips), what you write about is fully and truly up to you.

How often does the blog team meet?

We meet the first Monday of every month through Google Meets to pitch ideas, check-up on assignments, and give out new assignments. Time is flexible depending on everyone’s schedule, but usually in the early afternoon.
